Ah Hock Fried Hokkien Noodles

I’ll admit it, travelling down to Chomp Chomp Food Centre via public transportation is a hassle. But let me assure you, this is one trip that you will not regret as you will be feasting at one of Singapore’s best collection of local food.

One of the crown jewels of Chomp Chomp Food Centre is Ah Hock Fried Hokkien Noodles. This stall was so popular that the “old man” behind the wok came back from retirement and is now dishing out plates after plates of his famous noodles like a man on fire.

Ah Hock’s version of the hokkien mee is somewhat similar to Nam Sing’s as they both use thin bee hoon to compliment the wok fried yellow noodles. However, Ah Hock’s version is drier with no visible gravy. However, this does not mean there is a lack of flavor. Instead, the noodles have soaked up all the intense prawn broth after its baptism of fire in the wok. The noodles are also complimented with a fresh selection of prawns and squid. (would have been better if pork belly was added).

For all chili lovers, Ah Hock provides both sambal or sliced chili as condiments to go along with his noodles. If your tolerance is good, you could always add both!

Ah Hock sells his noodles at either S$3.00, S$4.00 or S$5.00 per plate. For me, S$5.00 (as seen in the picture below) is the right amount to share with two!

As Ah Hock is a very popular stall, be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes for your pipping hot plate of hokkien mee. Trust me, it’s well worth the wait.
